7 Doctor Strange Stories To Check Out Before The Movie
Doctor Strange has been casting spells in the Marvel Universe for over five decades, but next month, he'll finally join the big leagues when his first theatrical movie hits theaters in the U.S. Starring Benedict Cumberbatch, Doctor Strange will explore how the eponymous protagonist went from being a cocky surgeon to one of Earth's magical defenders in the MCU
. Although this cinematic universe has already touched on mystical forces in the Netflix shows and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., this movie will fully pull back the curtain on magic
Even though there's only a week until the Sorcerer Supreme
's big screen exploits, that's still plenty of time to learn about him from his adventures in comics and other media. That's why we've compiled this list of Doctor Strange stories to check out, ranging from the Silver Age to the modern era. Unless otherwise noted, these stories can be found either as collections or at digital sources like Comixology (or in one entry's case, on Blu-ray/DVD/digitally)
Doctor Strange: The Oath
If you ask a hardcore Doctor Strange fan what's the main comic book story to read starring the good Doctor, chances are they'll mention The Oath first. Written by Brian K. Vaughn and illustrated by Marcos Martin, this five-issue story arc saw Stephen Strange dealing with one of his former surgeon colleagues, Nicodemus West, who will actually be played by Michael Stuhlbarg in the live action movie. However, while the cinematic Nicodemus has simply been described as a "rival scientist," his comic book counterpart actually wielded mystical forces against the Sorcerer Supreme. The Oath also followed Strange trying to heal Wong from his terminal cancer. As far as self-contained tales go, outside of Strange's origin, The Oath definitely should rank at the top of your must-read list
7 Doctor Strange Stories To Check Out Before The Movie
Doctor Strange: The Eternity Saga
The early years of Doctor Strange were some of the craziest. Sure, comic book adventures were weird and unusual, but never before had they been so psychedelic. The Eternity Saga is a prime example of this. Original published as Strange Tales#130-144, this tale from good ol' Stan Lee and Steve Ditko saw Doctor Strange meeting Eternity, the leader of all the abstract entities in the Marvel universe. Strange had to find him in order to learn how to defeat Baron Mordo and Dormammu, two of his greatest adversaries who joined forces for the first time. This particular storyline hasn't been collected as its own volume yet, but if you can track down Essential Doctor Strange Vol. 1, you'll find the tale printed within.
Doctor Strange: The Sorcerer Supreme
This is the only non-comics entry on the list, but before the live action Doctor Strange movie, this was the Sorcerer Supreme's most prominent appearance in other media (outside of the occasional guest appearance on another hero's animated series, of course). Released in 2007, Doctor Strange: The Sorcerer Supreme told the good Doctor's origin for a new generation. As with other media adaptations, the animated movie took some liberties with the source material, like adding a few original characters and having Strange encounter magic before his car accident, but for the most part, it was a neat self-contained tale that gave Stephen Strange a new way to shine. If you want to get a good sense of what Doctor Strange is all about without turning any pages, Doctor Strange: The Sorcerer Supreme would be your best bet.
Ram Gopal Varma's Forth coming Film "SARKAR 3"..........
For those who were waiting for Ram Gopal Varma to announce the cast of his forthcoming film 'Sarkar 3', you can breathe a sigh of relief. The filmmaker, in a series of tweets, has revealed the names of all the actors who are a part of the third installment of the franchise.
'Sarkar 3' will have an array of actors that we haven't witnessed on-screen together. While Amitabh Bachchan reprises his role of Subhash Nagre, new addition Jackie Shroff will play the baddie and Ronit Roy will be seen in the role of Gokul Satam, the right-hand man of Nagre. Ramu added that Manoj Bajpayee's character will be loosely based on Arvind Kejriwal. Amit Sadh will be seen playing Nagre's grandson and Yami Gautam will be seen as someone who wants to take revenge from Nagre for her father's murder. Bharat Dabholkar and Rohini Hattangadi have also joined the cast. Varma even shared details of their characters along with their first looks. Now that's one way of letting the cat of the bag.
Rajamouli Opens Up About Bahubali 2
In a recent conversation, SS Rajamouli -the director of Baahubali 2- said "The film's grandeur was due to its rich cast and VFX. Baahubali 1 was completed in 380 days after which the entire cast and crew including myself were deeply exhausted. The film was made on a budget of 160 crores and it raked in around 600 crores".
He added: "No doubt Baahubali 2 will be bigger than Baahubali 1. Part 2 has got many touching and sentimental scenes. The fans of Baahubali will get answers to many questions like what happens between Shivagami and Baahubali? What happens between Shivagami and Kattapa? And what happens between Bhallala Deva and Devasena?"
Already 60% of the film shoot has been completed. The team will shoot a war sequence in the month of May which will feature Prabhas and Rana Daggubati.
Baahubali which is slated to release on April 14 2017 is now likely to have a clash with Super Star Rajinikanth's 2.0 (Sequel of Endhiran / Robo). The makers of both the films have planned for an April14 release.
Trade sources says, though both movies release on the same day, they will not clash headlong as Baahubali is a mainstream Telugu movie while 2.0 is a Tamil film. With Vishu and the Tamil New year falling on the same day and making it a long weekend, both films can be easily accommodated.
Dil Raju Risking With "Sahasam Swasaga Sagipo" Project
Young hero Naga Chaitanya's Sahasam Swasaga Sagipo release has been postponed numerous times, since distributors haven't dared to invest on the film, and Tamil version of the bilingual had some issues. Apparently, the result of Chaitu's last outing Premam is luring buyers to gamble on the Gautam Menon directed film.
When Gautam Menon announced Sahasam Swasaga Sagipo with Naga Chaiatanya, expectations were high on the project, as this is second film in the combo after the super hit of Ye Maya Chesave. First look teasers were accolade and AR Rahman composed songs were largely admired
As per reports, Dil Raju has acquired Nizam rights of Sahasam Swasaga Sagipo. He paid Rs 4 crores as advance for producers to obtain the rights. As we all know, Dil Raju released Premam in Nizam and has pocketed profits. Seemingly, Dil Raju is hoping to cash on the success of Premam which is turning out to be biggest hit for Chaitu.
Nonetheless, delay in release caused loss of interest on the project. There were even doubts whether the film would ever hit the screens. Producers recently confirmed to release SSS on November 11th. But, reports suggest that the movie may see the light of day on December 9th.
One thing for sure is Dil Raju's initiation would attract distributors in other zones to invest on SSS!
